Job Title: Patent Prosecution Paralegal

Position Summary: The Patent Prosecution Paralegal provides essential support to a team of attorneys in the Patent Prosecution practice area. This role involves assisting in the preparation and maintenance of both foreign and domestic patent applications, managing deadlines, coordinating with foreign counsel, handling correspondence, conducting patent-related research, and supporting various intellectual property tasks.

Specific Job Duties:

  • Prepare and file US patent applications (utility, US national state, and design) with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including responses and other necessary documents.
  • Prepare and file foreign patent applications (PCT, non-PCT, national stage, etc.), either directly or through communication with foreign counsel.
  • Manage daily docket of deadlines, ensuring timely responses and proper system updates.
  • Organize and file informational disclosure statements with the USPTO.
  • Collaborate with foreign law firms, providing required materials for foreign patent applications.
  • Review and respond to correspondence from foreign counsel, clients, and domestic outside counsel.
  • Conduct patent-related research using credible sources such as the MPEP, Brown Books, and Derwent.
  • Support multiple intellectual property legal professionals.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by legal professionals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate preferred.
  • 3-5 years of patent prosecution experience within a law firm setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic research tools and patent prosecution filing systems (e.g., WIPO, Lexis Nexis, Westlaw, USPTO).
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
  • Professional demeanor, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Problem-solving skills, initiative, and accountability.
  • Adaptability to fast-paced, dynamic work environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Flexibility to adjust working hours as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
